How to audit Domain Controller Security

We've been asked to add periodic Active Directory Security Audits to our mainstream periodic internal IT audits, and one of the things we're looking at is how to audit Domain Controller security.

Most of our DCes are housed in secure data-centers, along with other servers, and while there's adequate network security, IT admins for other services do have physical access to our DCs, so for instance, we're wondering if we need to put an additional set of locks in front of our DCs.

In general, I suppose the set of things to cover in Domain Controller Security Audits would mostly be similar to those covered for security audits of other mission-critical servers. So, if there are any special / additional things to look at, that would be helpful to know.

If anyone has any experience / thoughts in this regard, would appreciate your inputs.
